In 1946 the Western Auto Supply Company wanted an outboard engine they could sell through their catalog and at their retail locations.
The Kiekhaefer (Mercury) company was more than happy to re-badge some of their offerings as "Wizard" - usually slightly tuned down from their direct Mercury branded counterparts.
Mercury made motors for Western Auto through 1957, when the Oliver folks took over production of Wizard motors through the end of 1958.
In 1959, McCulloch started making Wizards, and kept doing so through the early 1960's, when Chrysler became the supplier through the mid 1960's.
I have 4 Wizard motors in Stock, and love each and every one of them!
